pop culture post 1

Given the following question this post will be an evaluation on the possible answers and reasons that could commonly be given.

"Choose one way in which technology has changed human society and explain the impact of that change, positive and/or negative."

So basically first we have to look at the very beginnings of technology, but technology has been around since well... forever and even a stick being used to collect ants or something could be even considered a very primitive form of technology. But lets be a bit more realistic about it, of course the question is focusing on how our current and recent technologies have affected our society today.

I believe the greatest thing technology has done for us is that it has given us an amazing for of communication. Just the fact that I can hold a conversation with someone as if they were directly in front of me with only a .04 second delay time even though they are across the globe is certainly amazing especially when you consider that in the span of human civilization just one letter could take months to make it the same distance.  It is impossible to consider such an amazing thing as either positive or negative as it can so easily have huge drawbacks but also extremely beneficial aspects as well.

There are many different aspects of technology and the communication it allows. There is television which is slowly becoming more obsolete but is still very much a large part of our current society. The main negative part of it is that everyone sees the same exact thing, of course there are options for what channel you watch but your selection is so immensely limited if you consider how many views there are in the world. Even shows such as Family Guy have become almost a virus in society where while it may be a funny show, so many millions of people watch it daily that the influences it has on our society is drastic and whatever they decide to air on their show it is what hundreds of millions of people will see and it is what they will imitate, and that kind of influence can easily turn our current views and respect for others upside down.

Then there is of course the internet the great network that anyone can communicate with anyone else as much as they please with just one click. But really, what makes it so popular? Is it the mass amount of entertainment that can be derived? or is it the ability to simply express your views and how you feel much like I am doing now? or is it that the internet is almost required to function like the rest of society, it is such an amazing tool for research and everyone would much rather just type in a question into google then they would go all the way to the library and find your answer in a book. There are so many uses from simple research, to finding a silly picture, or even finding out whats on the menu at your favorite take-out restaurant.

Then there are forums, blog sites such as this one, and places like youtube.com where anyone can make their own account for free and post whatever videos of them self ranting or just plain being silly. I honestly am very against blogging and sites like youtube where anyone can post what they want whenever they want, and yes I know I am using a blog right now but if it wasn't a class requirement I would have never even considered making a blog account. I could honestly go on for hours about what I think about the internet and for the most part I think its great and amazing and I am glad we have it, but i suppose it just bugs me when people post blogs and videos and literally expect people to sincerely care about how they feel about a certain subject, and hell I do not expect anybody to care about what I am writing now at all and I feel very hypocritical about even writing this.

In short I think our technology now is great and amazing and I wish I was born like last week just so I can experience a few more years of the great discoveries and inventions that are being made so many times on a daily basis. I think the fact that I can go to google and find out for example who was the king of like France in 1400. Being able to express yourself is great and cool and I totally can respect other peoples opinions I just don't personally believe that my own, or anyone elses individual opinion should really matter.

I have tried to not make this a rant as much as possible and I understand that my views may conflict with others and if some random person stumbles upon my post and feels the need to discuss this with me or have a problem with what I am saying in general I would like to know just for the pure aspect of being able to analyze other peoples opinions as it really does fascinate me.

I hope I have been clear and this is my 3rd attempt to write a closing to my post and I apologize for a seemingly essay format I really tried to avoid it. Anyway, seeya later -Sabin
